Someone should tell Donald Trump that the LGBT community being able to do what they want to do doesn’t hurt him or any of his American Taliban cohorts.
It has been reported by multiple sources that Trump plans on signing an executive order supporting religious freedom – a term used by conservatives to justify bigotry. Per the Nation
The four-page draft order, a copy of which is currently circulating among federal staff and advocacy organizations, construes religious organizations so broadly that it covers “any organization, including closely held for-profit corporations,” and protects “religious freedom” in every walk of life: “when providing social services, education, or healthcare; earning a living, seeking a job, or employing others; receiving government grants or contracts; or otherwise participating in the marketplace, the public square, or interfacing with Federal, State or local governments.”
The draft order seeks to create wholesale exemptions for people and organizations who claim religious or moral objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity, and it seeks to curtail women’s access to contraception and abortion through the Affordable Care Act.
Trump spent his campaign avoiding this issue, primarily because people like his vice President believe in gay conversion therapy. Just a few days ago, Trump appointed a rabidly anti-gay pro-life advocate to head public affairs at the Department of Health and Human services. Jeff Sessions scores a 0% on gay rights with the Human Rights Campaign.
I also want to note that Trump’s Taliban is just taking a page out of Putin’s playbook on gay rights. I’m not sure how this is much different than the Muslims they spend so much time railing against. Donald Trump should be ashamed of himself.
